Welcome to Karratha, heart of the Central Pilbara Coast. Located approximately 1,600km from Perth and a comfortable 2 hour plane flight.
Established in the late 1960’s to service the major local resource projects developed by Hamersley Iron, Dampier Salt and Woodside.
The many resource projects throughout the Pilbara, the expansion of the Dampier Port and Karratha Airport, Karratha being the administrative centre for the Shire of Roebourne and local headquarters for many State and Federal government departments and the huge demand for Iron Ore and Gas from the region has put our town on the map and is currently referred to as “The Economic Power of Australia”.
Due to the rapid growth of the region Karratha is experiencing unpredicented growth in the population which has lead to the release of over 2,000 lots of land over the past 4 years by Landcorp. Many future projects and the announcement of the state government of their ‘Pilbara Cities’ initiative which will include changes to the town centre, high rise, mixed use & medium density apartments and a marina in Dampier.
Add to all of this, the most amazing countryside. The magnificent Karijini & Millstream National Parks which are ideal for camping. Also, being the gateway to the Dampier Archipelago which consists of 43 islands, which have some of the best fishing in the world. The most diverse range of marine life known to man, arguable the most colourful and oldest coral reefs in the world, that rival the Great Barrier Reef & Ningaloo, Karratha and the Pilbara Region is the place to be.
We may be biased but we believe from a work, lifestyle and family point of view it is the ‘Best Place on Earth’.
